Description
This artist quality cello bow was hand crafted by Richard Geipelin Markneukirchen, Germany, probably in the 1970's. His family has a well respected history in the trade. It is stamped "Richard Geipel" on the handle of the stick, which is made of fine grain Pernambuco in the round form. The light varnish is a bit worn at the sides of the tip, which has a synthetic faux-ivory face. There are the typical small nicks in the finish elsewhere on the stick from general use. The well-balanced bow weighs 82 grams.
The frog is trimmed in German Silver with an iridescent Abalone slide and Parisian eye. There is a bit of wear on the edges of the ebony from typical use. The silver wire wrapping is capped with leather and appears to be original.
The bow is perfectly straight, with a well-arched camber, and is quite strong. It produces a powerful, sonorous tone in forte passages, while still subtle enough to sing sweetly in pianissimo. An excellent value for an advanced player.
