Alison Taylor's Ribbed Check - Vintage Rowan Designer DK and Kaffe Fassett Kid Silk
From Rowan Book 6 published in the Fall of 1989, we offer this vintage slip stitch pullover by Alison Taylor. Alison created several classic designs for Rowan in the late 1980-s and early 1990's. This is one of my personal favorites. The Ribbed Check pullover is timeless, with deep jewel-toned colors and a simple slip stitch pattern that mimics fair isle knitting without the need to carry two colors in a row. Suitable for anyone who can do simple shaping the pattern is rated "easy" - straightforward knitting. The loose fitting jumper features drop shoulder sleeves and a deep ribbed collar. It can be knit in any of four sizes - Small with a completed bust/chest measurement of 42 inches, Medium with a completed bust/chest measurement of 43.5 inches, Large with a completed bust/chest measurement of 45 inches, and X Large with a completed bust/chest measurement of 47 inches. Ribbed Check was designed in two colorways -- this one features a black background with rich accents of red, purple, blue, gold and green. These shades were extremely popular and are found in many other designer patterns from the time.  It is designed for a man but would look equally good on a woman who likes to wear deep colors. Our kit contains all the discontinued Rowan Designer DK and Kaffe Fassett Kid Silk you need to complete the project as designed. Designer DK was made from 100% virgin wool and as the name suggests, it knits to classic DK weight. Kid silk is a blend of 70% Kid Mohair and 30% Mulberry Silk and has a beautiful sheen and loft from the mohair. Designer DK and Kid Silk were put up in 50 gram balls and 25 gram skeins respectively. The design calls for a tension of 18 stitches to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 9 (5.5mm) needles.
