Takin’ off for college. It’s
a helluva thing. A good
thing. Sure glad he’s got
the chance. He’s earned it.
Yeah, he’s a good boy, Al-
ways worked hard. Always
there when I needed him.
Cost us a lot of sweat for
what we got here.
We had good times,
though. He’ll have ’em in
college, too. I know he will.
Just hope he don’t forget his
roots. He won’t. No way.
He’s got a good head on his
shoulders. I think we taught
him the right values. Expect
now he’ll come back and
teach his old man somethin’
Told him I was real
proud he earned his way.
Told him to pick out a cycle,
whatever he liked. I wanted
to send him off right.
Kid sure is practical
minded. Got himself that
new KZ400. Damn good
transportation. Ain’tgunna
break him. Ain’t gunna
break down on him. Real
well-built machine. And
real smart lookin’.
Pretty smart engine too
. . . 398cc, 4-stroke twin.
Even got ’lectric starter, disc
brake up front. Mileage
alone is somethin’ else.
Didn't know they made
cycles like that for the
money. Yeah, he’s got him-
self a winner. He’s gunna
have fun gettin’ to school,
and he’ll do fine there.
It’ll be tough I guess.
But he’s not afraid of pushin'
himself. Sometimes I won-
der if he don’t push himself
a little too hard —like his
mom did. I dunno. It’s too
late for wonderin' Just can’t
believe he’s grown up al-
ready. Time passes so quick
...so quick.
