been driving
for her family six years now so I know if things don't go the way she plans. Miss Katherine gets furious.This evening,when we pulled into the Pullium’s driveway her plans were very definite. "No need to wait”, she said, "David will take me uh, home!"
"Pardon. Miss Katherine, but I don’t see his car!" I said.
"He’s simply a little later than usual’, ’she said."Good night, William" And into the party she went. I waited, just in ease. And ten minutes later, David arrived. I’ve never seen anybody show up at a classy party riding a motorcycle.
Jimmy — he drives for the McCormicks —he said it was hardly proper. But Roland scoffed. "Nonsense, man. that’s a Z-1!’ I asked him, "What’s a Z-1?”
"Maybe the finest touring bike ever made, that’s what”, he said. And he launched into an emotional monologue, I’d call it, about the bike’s 4-stroke. 4-cylinder, 903cc engine, its prestige, world records and how money talks. Even Jimmy was impressed.
So all I can do now is wait for the storm after the party, when Miss Katherine finds out she won’t be going anywhere in the back of David’s limo. And I’m wondering if David would consider putting a side-car on his Z-1 and hiring a second driver.

WHY’S SYLVIA HARPIN’ at me to take her on trips all the time? How come she doesn't understand I got a business to run, can’t go flittin’ around like I m some kind of kid on a motorcycle?
Ka-wa-saki. Kawasaki... 900... 900 what? Where’s that kid goin’ on that thing anyway with a bedroll? Can’t sail it to Hawaii, can he? Can’t fly it to Acapulco, can he? Kids.
Wonder what it’s like just travelin’ alone on a motorcycle with your bedroll. No traveler’s checks. Goin’ anywhere you want. How’s a guy get along? What if I said, “Sylvia, so long for two weeks, maybe more, I’m hittin’ the road on my Kawasaki motorcycle and my bedroll and that’s the way it is? Where would I go? Wyoming? Maybe first the ol’ home town’s where I’d go. Wonder what they d say. Elton, he’d come out of his drug store and say, “Hey, Murray, thought you were in the travel business’.’ And I’d say, “Business got boring, so I’m traveling!"
Wonder if Margaret Stevens is still there. Maggie. “C’mon, Maggie, I m taking you away from here. Goin’ to Wyoming. Don’t pack, just bring yourself. Bet she's prettier than ever. Maggie.
